Paul Grimwood

Paul is a Director of the Company and Head of the Commercial and Civil Litigation Department.
Paul has over 20 years experience in all forms of dispute resolution and applies an innovative and skilled approach to a wide variety of commercial and business problems and disputes.

Paul is skilled at developing close working relationships with his clients and firmly believes that communication and co-operation with clients is a key element in achieving a satisfactory outcome in any dispute.

Paul adopts a strategic and managed approach and has extensive experience in all Courts and varied Tribunals with a particular emphasis on dispute avoidance and alternative dispute resolution.

Paul has expertise in high value and complex commercial disputes and has a particular interest in the resolution of sports related disputes, most notably in relation to football.

David Roberts

David is a Director of the Company and has 25 years of experience as a family solicitor and Head of the Family Department.
David is a member of the Law Society Advanced Family Panel, a former President of the Local Law Society and former President of the Hull Paragon Rotary Club of which he is still a member.

David enjoys all types of family work, especially resolving financial issues.

James Ashton

James is a 15-year-qualified solicitor and Director of the company.

James joined Sandersons in 2000, becoming a salaried partner in 2003 and an equity partner in 2010 and director in 2012.

James is a member of the Law Society's Children Panel and a Higher Court Advocate. James represents adults and children in Local Authority care proceedings as well as in private law children disputes, divorce, financial remedy proceedings and domestic violence injunctions.

James also undertakes private road traffic work having spent a number of years as a court duty solicitor for Hull and East Riding.

Simon Griffiths

Simon qualified in 1990 and is one of our most experienced and long-serving solicitors.

Simon has particular expertise in dealing with divorce and matrimonial finances and has a sensitive and friendly approach to clients.

Simon also undertakes children work, either in relation to residence or contact disputes or Local Authority care proceedings.

Katie Shaw

Katie joined Sandersons in July 2013 as a Solicitor in the Family Department.

Katie was a paralegal then a Trainee Solicitor at another Hull-based firm, training predominantly within the Family Department.

Katie advises and represents clients in all areas of Family Law but has a particular interest in Domestic Abuse and Children work, including Private Law Children disputes and Injunction Proceedings to protect you and your children.

Katie is also a member of Resolution.

Richard joined Sandersons in September 2013 as a member of the family law team

Richard is a 16 year qualified solicitor, and a high court solicitor-advocate.

He represents adults and children within local authority care proceedings and is an accredited member of the Law Society Children Law Panel.

Katie Atkinson

Katie joined Sandersons as a Legal Assistant in June 2011 and qualified as a solicitor in 2013.

Katie has experience in a wide range of corporate transactions, commercial agreements and employment matters. Recently Katie prepared for hearing a successful defence of a difficult disability discrimination and unfair dismissal case.

She has handled cases relating to dismissals, different forms of discrimination, TUPE and whistleblowing and prepares and advises on employment contracts and employment handbooks.

Katie provides advice on how to handle employment law problems cost effectively.

Richard Campbell

Richard is a Solicitor-Advocate in the Commercial Litigation team.

Richard adopts a practical approach to dispute resolution and considers the commercial reality together with the cost of legal proceedings when providing advice which is tailored to meet each individual client's goals.

Richard is able to consider all forms of alternate dispute resolution together with formal court proceedings to ensure the best outcome is achieved.

Richard can provide advice across a broad range of contentious issues, from small claims court disputes, through to significant commercial contract disputes.

Richard also maintains a client base in contentious probate, insolvency and landlord and tenant type work.

Further Richard is a keen advocate and is available to undertake agency work in civil matters in the Small Claims Court through to High Court matters.

David Macnamara

David joined Sandersons in September 2015 when his previous firm merged with Sandersons.

He has practised as a Solicitor either, as a sole practitioner or in partnership with others from the same office in Withernsea since 1984.

David has dealt with a broad spectrum of legal matters over this time but concentrates now on Conveyancing, Wills and Probate, and Lasting Powers of Attorney.

David has excellent local knowledge and experience which he brings to the clients he represents.

Geoff Davis

Geoff is our longest-serving member of staff and has been with us since 1972.

Geoff is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives.

He has a wealth of experience and a friendly, approachable style.

Geoff undertakes residential conveyancing work including sales and purchases, re-mortgages and buy-to-let property work for several large professional landlords. He is also a specialist on Leasehold titles.

Geoff has a good working relationship with many of the local Estate Agents and can advise clients on levels of service provided within the local area. This can be particularly important when dealing with the administration of an estate.

Geoff has substantial experience in Probate and also undertakes Transfers of Equity especially in relation to IHT planning and Matrimonial settlements.

Lesley Barratt

Lesley joined Sandersons in August 2016 and works in our Wills, Trusts and Probate Department at our Beverley office.

Born in Hull, Lesley is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives.

She gained her expertise and knowledge over the years working for a number of prominent local law firms before joining Sandersons.

She has more than 30 year's experience managing complex issues associated with Probate, Inheritance Tax, Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Deputyships Trusts and Elderly Client Care.

Lesley is committed to giving excellent client care and establishing a good rapport with clients who are often elderly and vulnerable.

Out of the office Lesley is a qualified Netball umpire and spends her free time officiating at local games in the Works League and the Humberside County Leagues, having previously played the game for 40+ years.

Sharon Spicer

Sharon joined the firm in October 2009 and deals with residential conveyancing.

Sharon has considerable experience of residential sales and purchases together with re-mortgage work and transfer of equities and is well-regarded within the area.

Aimi Sugarman

Aimi joined Sandersons in 2014 as a private client executive in the Wills, Trusts and Probate Department having spent the previous two years working for a large 6 office firm in Manchester.

Aimi provides advice on a range of private client matters including the preparation of Wills, Statutory Wills, Powers of Attorney and the Administration of Estates through Probate or Intestacy.

She has experience of setting up a variety of lifetime trusts as well as discretionary trusts and disabled persons trusts within a will.

Aimi also has many years of experience of Court of Protection Deputyship matters including professional Deputyships and the management of Trusts set up for the benefit of those who are disabled or in receipt of substantial personal injury awards.

Aimi prides herself being approachable, friendly and professional at all times and ensuring a high standard of service for her clients.

Aimi is empathetic and understands how upsetting losing a loved one can be and ensures the administering process is dealt with as simple as possible to ensure minimal distress for families.

Aimi is a STEP Affiliated member and is currently working towards a diploma in the Trusts and Estates. Aimi is also a Cilex Affiliated member and is working towards being a Chartered Legal Executive.

Aimi is a Dementia Champion and gives talks to the local community, businesses and groups regarding Dementia awareness as she has a lot of experience in dealing with elderly and vulnerable clients.

Aimi runs Will clinics at AGE UK and East Riding of Yorkshire Carers in Beverley as well as providing talks regarding estate planning matters, care costs and inheritance tax planning to local groups in the Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire area.

Outside of work Aimi is an active member of the local community in relation to religious groups and is the treasurer for one of the local charities.

She also enjoys Zumba in her spare time.
